[Workshop] Writing in Reverse. A Great Way To Assure Plot Fits Together.

I've been watching Arrested Development and it's probably the most brilliant writing in any show I've seen since Maron. I'm talking about the nuance and quick setups. I'm not talking about shows that span entire seasons like LOST or Breaking Bad (both are great writing in different capacities).

What intrigues me is how many tiny details they can shove into 1 short story. I've figured out the trick. The writers start at the end and work backwards.

"Okay, we want a woman to get in his car, see blood, a skull, and assume she's being kidnapped so that the character can get arrested. The trick is, the blood isn't blood, and no one was actually murdered....how can we do this?"

At that point, they start writing in ridiculous short stories, in a similar way (but more context) Family Guy writers their "that time" skits.

Anyway, don't be afraid to write in reverse if you have something worth writing. If you can't figure out how to get the care chase, airplane crash, or murder scene to happen, work backward until it starts to fit together. Just becareful how many chapters you'll need to hop awe
