MOON [2009] Sci-Fi // Drama

Moon is one of my all time favorite movies. Sam Rockwell is an amazing actor who can portray so many different nuanced personalities, it's quite impressive.

As a disclaimer, I'm going to be incredibly vague with this review. This is the type of movie that if I say too much it just takes away from the moment by moment suspense.

The premise of this story is just as brilliant as the script itself. The characters, all 2 of them, are an amazing duo. Kevin Spacey's voice was a great choice for a perky (for lack of better term) friend named GERTY--an A.I. robot unlike anything I've ever seen, yet strangely believable and charming. The robot is ever helpful and obey's every request, perhaps to a fault. He always feels friendly, a stark contrast to Ridley Scot's androids.

Sam's (the character's name as well as the actor) job is simple to run a moon station mining HELIUM, that it then sends back to Earth. It is suspenseful, beautiful, amazingly scored (great music), and the cinematography is astounding. Every scene feels like part of the bigger picture. The tone is consistent and perfect for what it is. It is both frustrating (in a good way) and suspenseful.

The plot is always moving, and always feels just as important as the moment before. The climax (which I will not give spoilers on, you'll notice I'm being much much more vague than usual) is something to write home about.

The set design, the costumes, the dialogue and characters are all absolutely brilliant. If you like sci-fi, as I suspect most of my readers do consider it's all I write {INSERT SELF PROMO LINK IF I EVER GOT MY ACT TOGETHER ENOUGH TO PUBLISH -_-} then you will love this movie.
